Seinfeld and the Soup Nazi
When Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi” hit the airwaves, Jerry Seinfeld thought it would be a fun idea to celebrate by visiting the real soup kitchen in New York that inspired the episode.

The cast and crew were hesitant. Everyone who had ever been to Al Yeganeh’s (the actual “Soup Nazi”) shop knew he wasn’t exactly the warmest host. But Jerry brushed off their worries, insisting: “Come on, we made him famous! He’ll love it.”

So, the group went.

When they arrived, Jerry stepped forward, smiling, expecting maybe a handshake or at least a nod of approval. Instead, Yeganeh locked eyes with him for a solid ten seconds—then erupted. He hurled curses, called Jerry out in front of everyone, and demanded a full, sincere apology for the way the episode had mocked his strict rules.

Jerry, true to form, muttered a dry, sarcastic: “I guess I’m sorry.”

The whole visit left the cast shaken and awkward, realizing that while the episode made for one of the funniest half-hours of TV ever, the man behind it didn’t find the joke nearly as amusing.
